Sex Work is WORK!
Sex work is a job that demands high intelligence, motivation, and a business-oriented mind - stripping requires marketing/sales, OnlyFans girls need social media management and creativity, and all sex work is essentially acting/performance and customer service.
It’s time to act - the UK (where I live) are attempting to legalise the Nordic model of SW regulation i.e. criminalising the buyers of the service but not the seller. This has statistically been shown to be a dangerous model - instead of protecting sex workers as it purports to do, it makes their work a LOT more dangerous as it means the only people willing to purchase their services are those who are comfortable breaking the law. It doesn't take much thought to extrapolate why this is wildly unsafe. The deadline to respond to the UK Police and Crime Bill is TOMORROW - so if you’re UK-based, write to your MP!
I fully support SW as a valid form of work, and therefore deserving of decriminalisation and labour rights in the same way as any other job. There are many conversations to be had about feminism, the patriarchy, misogyny, and so on - but to blame sex work for the issues created by the system we live under is directing your hatred at those who are the most vulnerable of all, and COMPLETELY missing the point.
I owe most of my knowledge and education about sex worker rights to my sex worker partners and friends, as well as @sexquisite.events in the UK which is a fantastic SW-run event that combines performance art and activism I've attended multiple times. If you wish to learn more about this topic, I highly recommend the book Revolting Prostitutes, written by Juno Mac and Molly Smith. Not only do they share their personal lived experiences in this line of work, but they also fully lay out all the different ways sex work has been treated by the law across the world, and all the research-backed arguments, evidence, and explanations for why full decriminalisation is the best, most feminist, and ONLY path forward that ensures the most safety and human rights for SW.
This is a sex-positive page, and I believe supporting sex-positivity means supporting every person's right to choose what they want to do with their body and their sexuality, including monetising it as a service.
