Kink, Power Dynamics, and Society
I fundamentally disagree with the (unfortunately common) notion that kink reinforces power dynamics in society and is inherently problematic. Yes, we may not be able to fully separate our kinks from the political environment we exist in. But also:
A) people can't control what turns them on
B) no one's being (non-consensually) hurt by a bit of sexy theatre
C) there are MANY reasons why folks are kinky which have NOTHING to do with politics or trauma
D) sometimes kink is fun and it's literally not that deep
Being sex-positive also means being kink-positive - it's obviously important to question the things you're into and reflect on why you might be interested in those things, but kink shaming across the board is not very cool or woke at all! People often engage in kinks not as an endorsement of those acts in real life, but because of a specific dynamic, feeling, or fantasy they want to indulge in.
